Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained 12 Rohingya people while they were attempting to enter Bangladesh illegally from India through the Barlekha border in Moulvibazar.

The arrest was made around 6:30am on Thursday by a patrol team of the Bianibazar Battalion (52 BGB) in the Batamoral Pan Punji area, about 500 yards inside Barlekha upazila. Among the detainees were three men, four women, and five children.

Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Ariful Haque Chowdhury, commanding officer of the 52 BGB, said the Rohingyas were forcibly pushed into Bangladesh from Indian territory. The BGB patrol team immediately intercepted and rescued them.

He added that the detainees would be handed over to Barlekha Police Station following due legal procedures.
