Bangladesh suffered a 5-1 defeat against defending champions South Korea in their final Pool B match on Monday, a result that virtually confirms a third-place finish in the four-team group.

Moshiur Rahman Biplob’s side were on the back foot early, conceding two goals in the first quarter before letting in two more within seven minutes of the second. South Korea raced to a 4-0 lead by the 22nd minute.

Bangladesh responded immediately through Sohanur Rahman Sabuj, who pulled one back in the same minute. Despite showing resilience and keeping the Koreans at bay for large parts of the game, Bangladesh conceded a fifth goal from a penalty stroke just before the final whistle.

Earlier in the tournament, Bangladesh had lost 4-1 to Malaysia and secured a convincing 8-3 win over Chinese Taipei.
