Renovation work at the Bangladesh Football Federation’s (BFF) turf ground has finally become visible after months of waiting. Once a worn-out surface that posed injury risks for players, the ground is now being revived with a new layer of artificial turf. Following FIFA’s approval, construction has picked up speed, and contractor Greenfields has confirmed that the field should be ready for play before the end of this month. The company also aims to complete the Kamalapur Stadium project by next month and hand both venues over to the federation together.

The new artificial turf at the BFF ground can already be seen taking shape. While the early stages of work moved slowly, progress in recent weeks has been rapid. The Kamalapur Stadium, which plays a central role in hosting women’s football and domestic leagues, is also part of the renovation scheme.

Over the years, its poor drainage has caused frequent match cancellations during heavy rain. This time, engineers have modernised the system to prevent waterlogging and ensure the ground remains playable in all conditions.

FIFA has given the green signal for turf installation at Kamalapur. Greenfields has said the artificial grass will only be laid once the upgraded drainage passes testing, a precaution designed to protect the quality of the pitch. The company expects both venues to be fully ready for use by September.

Players have long complained about injuries caused by the old surface at Kamalapur. Many footballers picked up knocks and strains on the uneven turf. To address this, changes have been made to the structure beneath the pitch as well as the playing surface itself, with the goal of reducing the risk of injuries.

Although the fields belong to the BFF, they will not be reserved solely for federation use. Under an agreement with the local community, the grounds will also be open to residents when free. In a city where playing fields are scarce, this is seen as a significant step. The BFF will manage and schedule matches while locals will have access during available hours, with the condition that the turf must be maintained in good condition
