A police officer was injured when his pistol accidentally discharged while he was cleaning it at the Katakhali Police Station in Rajshahi on Wednesday night.
The injured officer, Assistant Sub-Inspector Wares Ali, 45, sustained a bullet wound to his right knee around 11 pm. Colleagues rushed him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Dr Shankar Kumar Biswas, a physician at the hospital’s emergency department, confirmed that Wares is now out of danger. Abdul Matin, the officer-in-charge of Katakhali Police Station, attributed the incident to negligence and stated that the officer is currently under medical supervision.
