Jalal Ahmad Jalal, a Vice President (VP) candidate in the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election, has been expelled from his residential hall following allegations that he stabbed his roommate during a violent altercation.
The accused, Jalal, is a student in the Department of Television and Film Studies and a resident of Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall.
The incident took place in the early hours of Wednesday around 1:00 AM in room 462 of Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall, where Jalal allegedly attacked his roommate, Rabiul Haque, with a knife. Rabiul, a student of the Political Science department from the 2018–19 academic session, was seriously injured and is currently undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Hall Provost Dr. Md Sirajul Islam announced Jalal’s immediate expulsion, calling the act “barbaric.”
“Such a heinous act cannot be tolerated. He has been expelled from the hall, and we will also initiate the process to cancel his studentship,” said Dr. Islam.
“Police have been informed, and a case will be filed against him tonight,” he added.
Eyewitnesses reported that the attack stemmed from a longstanding dispute between the two roommates, which escalated into violence late at night.
