In a post on their official Facebook page, the Sitakunda Upazila Administration has stated that rumours circulating on social media regarding the construction of a mosque at Chandranath Hill are entirely baseless after visiting the temple premises today.
The post said that they had come across a social media post claiming that a mosque was being planned at the site.
Immediately after the post surfaced, relevant law enforcement and intelligence agencies were instructed to monitor the matter closely and take necessary actions.
The post also alleged that the initiators would contact the administration on the matter today. However, no such communication had been made so far, according to the statement.
The administration stressed that Chandranath Hill and its temples are regarded as sacred pilgrimage sites by the Hindu community across the subcontinent, attracting devotees from different parts of the world.
Sitakunda has long been an example of communal harmony, where people of all faiths have coexisted peacefully. The beliefs, values, and sentiments of the Hindu community are held in deep respect by the residents of Sitakunda, the statement added.
Officials visited the Chandranath Temple area today and confirmed that there is no evidence of any mosque construction initiative.
The administration further assured devotees that ‘no permission’ has been granted for such construction in the temple area.
The release warned that any attempt to spread rumours, propaganda, or misinformation to disrupt communal harmony in Sitakunda will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The administration urged everyone to help maintain peace and communal harmony, reminding that religious and cultural diversity should not create division but rather strengthen bonds of love, compassion, and unity.
Earlier on Saturday, a Facebook post by MM Saiful Islam went viral claiming that 90% of the construction of a mosque atop Sitakunda’s Chandranath Hill has been confirmed. Referring back to his recent visit, he expressed frustration over being prohibited from praying at the sacred site. He also cited an incident where two individuals were reportedly detained by police for offering Azan two years ago.
