A Dhaka bound Boeing 787 dreamliner flight (BG356), was cancelled in Rome on Sunday due to a mechanical fault.
The flight was scheduled to depart Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino Airport in Rome at 7:20pm local time on 10 August. However, according to the airline’s engineering department, the aircraft was fully prepared for departure when a malfunction in the wing flap was detected just before take-off, forcing the cancellation.
As the issue could not be fixed immediately, the aircraft remains grounded at the airport. Repairs will be carried out once the necessary spare parts are being sent from Dhaka.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines general manager of public relations department ABM Raushan Kabir said the flight was cancelled due to the technical fault . He said accommodation had been arranged for passengers in Rome hotels.
He said the spare parts required to repair the wing flap are being sent from London and are expected to arrive in Rome by Monday evening Bangladesh time. Once repaired, the passengers will be flown back to Dhaka on the same aircraft, with no alternative flight arranged. Passengers and crew will remain in hotels until then.
