5 killed as bus plunges into ditch in Faridpur

At least five people, including two women, were killed and several others injured when a passenger bus lost control and plunged into a roadside ditch in Faridpur’s Gerda Union on Tuesday morning.

The accident occurred around 11:15 am near the Zobaida Karim Jute Mill on the Dhaka-Barishal highway, according to eyewitnesses and police sources.

Asaduzzaman, officer-in-charge of Faridpur Kotwali Police Station, said the bus was travelling from the district headquarters to Madaripur when it veered off the road and fell into a ditch in the Bakunda area.

Five people died at the scene, and several others sustained injuries. The identities of the victims have not yet been confirmed.

Rescue teams rushed to the spot, and the injured were taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for treatment. Among the deceased are three men and two women, police confirmed.

Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident.
