At least 49 people have been arrested in connection with attacks and looting at various business establishments during nationwide protests against Israeli atrocities in Gaza, held on 7 April.

Authorities have filed two cases so far, with more currently under preparation, according to an official government statement.

The Chief Adviser’s Office issued a statement condemning the violence and confirming that law enforcement agencies launched immediate operations in response.

The government emphasised that such acts pose a direct threat to public safety and the rule of law.

What began as peaceful demonstrations in solidarity with the Palestinian people turned violent in several districts, including Sylhet, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, and Bogura.

Allegedly, a group of miscreants took advantage of the protests to vandalise and loot outlets of international chains such as KFC, Pizza Hut, and Bata, among others.

“The police conducted raids in multiple locations on Monday night,” the statement read. “Authorities are reviewing video footage from the protests to identify those involved in the violence. The operation will continue until every individual responsible is brought to justice.”

The government has also urged citizens to assist with the investigation by providing any relevant information to the authorities. “Through collective effort, we can bring those who disrupted peace and stability to justice,” the statement added.

Earlier, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam had issued directives for the swift arrest of those involved in the attacks on businesses across the country. Law enforcement officials reiterated their commitment to restoring order and ensuring that such incidents do not recur.
