A total of 43 bottles of Indian liquor were recovered during an anti-narcotics operation at a residence in Sunamganj’s border upazila of Bishwambarpur on Wednesday, though no arrests have been made in connection with the drive.

The operation was conducted at the house of Shahed Ali, alias Abuni, in West Machimpur village under Ward No 9 of No 3 Dhanpur Union. The raid was carried out with the assistance of the local anti-narcotics committee and local dignitaries, resulting in the recovery of 43 bottles of Indian “Officer’s Choice” liquor from the premises.

The seized alcohol was subsequently handed over to the Sunamganj District Detective Branch (DB) Police. A DB police team led by Sub-Inspector (SI) Saiful Islam, comprising Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Khadem and accompanying forces, participated in the recovery drive alongside local dignitaries who assisted in the operation.

However, no suspects have been arrested so far in connection with the seizure. Local residents expressed that regular surveillance and anti-smuggling drives need to be further strengthened to curb illicit drug trade and smuggling in the border union of Dhanpur.
