Tabu is set to share the screen with Akkineni Nagarjuna in a strikingly different avatar as the actor reunites with him after 28 years in his landmark 100th film, ‘King 100’.
According to Filmfare, the actress plays Mahanthi Jhansi Rani, a formidable matriarch who commands authority and plays a pivotal role in the story.
A glimpse of her character shows her as a powerful leader with a strong dislike for people who believe in luck, a conviction that puts her at odds with the film’s protagonist.
The makers have offered a glimpse of the character, describing Tabu’s screen presence as intense and commanding.
The role appears to carry significant weight in the film’s narrative, rather than serving as a supporting appearance.
The reunion marks a notable change from the romantic pairing audiences remember from Nagarjuna and Tabu’s earlier collaboration.
This time, the relationship between their characters promises conflict rather than romance.
Nagarjuna also marked Tabu’s birthday with a warm message on X, recalling her role as Pandu in their earlier film ‘Ninne Pelladatha’ and welcoming her new character, Mahanthi Jhansi Rani. He credited her with making ‘King 100’ special.
Directed by Ra. Karthik, ‘King 100’ is scheduled to arrive in theatres on 24 December.
Tabu has built a reputation for portraying complex and commanding characters across Hindi, Telugu and Tamil cinema.
Her notable films include ‘Maachis’, ‘Astitva’, ‘Chandni Bar’, ‘Maqbool’ and ‘Haider’. She won a National Film Award for her performance in ‘Chandni Bar’.
Her other prominent credits include ‘The Namesake’, ‘Drishyam’, ‘Andhadhun’, ‘Drishyam 2’ and ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’. She is also set to appear in the upcoming Telugu film ‘Slumdog: 33 Temple Road’.
