An inmate of Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj, Zakir Hossain, 50, has died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Prison guards brought him to the emergency department of the hospital at around 5:45pm on Tuesday, where the duty doctor declared him dead.
Inspector Md Habibur Rahman, in-charge of Dhaka Medical Police Camp, said the prisoner fell ill at the central jail in the afternoon.
Prison guards subsequently brought him to the hospital, where the doctor pronounced him dead, and the body has been kept in the morgue for an autopsy.
According to jail sources, the prisoner’s home was in Hazaribagh area, and his father was the late Abdur Rashid. Details regarding his case could not immediately be known.
