Mahdi Amin, an adviser to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, has announced a special opportunity for students who failed one or two subjects in this year’s Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations.

Instead of waiting a full year, these students will be allowed to retake examinations in only the subjects they failed within the next month. A total of 422,905 students failed one or two subjects in this year’s examinations.

The announcement was made at a programme organised by the Ministry of Education at the Secretariat on Saturday to inaugurate the publication of this year’s HSC and equivalent examination results.

Mahdi Amin said that, under the usual system, students who fail one or more subjects in public examinations such as the SSC and HSC have to wait until the following year to retake the examinations.

He said this disrupts the normal progress of their education and also causes mental stress.
