Sir Patrick Stewart remained determined to continue acting, even as he acknowledged that opportunities become fewer with age. In one of his final interviews, the actor spoke about returning as Professor Charles Xavier in Avengers: Doomsday and made clear that retirement was never part of his plans.

According to Variety, Stewart discussed his career and his decision to reprise the role in an interview with TV Insider published in July. He reflected on the challenges actors face as they grow older, but said he continued to receive interesting offers and welcomed the chance to take on new work.

“As any actor my age will tell you, there are fewer and fewer available roles as we get older. That being said, I still continue to receive interesting offers and I love being challenged by new work,” Stewart said.

He also dismissed the idea of officially stepping away from the profession, expressing his commitment to acting for the rest of his life.

“I can’t imagine ever officially retiring. I’ll always and forever be an actor,” he said.

Stewart’s return as Xavier in Avengers: Doomsday marks his ninth appearance as the X-Men character. Marvel Studios confirmed that the film will be his final on-screen appearance in the role.
