Train services on the North Bengal route were temporarily suspended on Thursday morning after the rear coach of the Nilphamari-bound Nilsagar Express (765) derailed near Mohera Railway Station in Mirzapur, Tangail.
The incident occurred at around 9:10am in Ward No 6 of Mohera Union in Mirzapur. The train was travelling from Dhaka to Chilahati when the rear wheels of its last coach came off the track.
The derailment caused minor damage to the coach’s wheels, the railway line and the station’s block point.
Mohera Railway Station Master Sohel Rana confirmed the incident and said the damaged block point had halted train services temporarily, leaving several trains stranded at different stations.
He said a mechanical fault might have caused the derailment.
Sohel Rana added that the higher authorities had been informed and a relief train was expected to arrive soon to clear the line and restore train services.
