Bangladesh lost opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim in the first hour of the opening Test against West Indies, reaching 34 for one at the drinks break after electing to bat first at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Wednesday.

West Indies’ pace duo of Jayden Seales and Shamar Joseph found early movement off the surface, generating seam and swing to trouble both left-handed openers, Tanzid and Shadman Islam.

After spending around 30 minutes at the crease, Tanzid fell to Seales. A length delivery outside the fifth-stump channel drew the opener into a checked drive away from his body, and he edged the ball to Justin Greaves at second slip.

Tanzid made 7 off 23 balls, leaving Bangladesh one down in the opening session.
Shadman and Mominul Haque were at the crease at the drinks break, with Shadman on 12 off 34 deliveries and Mominul on 13.

The match is the first of Bangladesh’s remaining six Tests in the 2025-27 World Test Championship cycle. The Tigers need four wins and at least one draw from those matches to reach the final for the first time.

Bangladesh are also without Mushfiqur Rahim, who was ruled out of the series opener after sustaining a contusion injury to his right index finger during training on Tuesday. Towhid Hridoy has come into the XI in his place, while Mushfiqur is expected to be available for the second Test in Sylhet, starting on 5 November.
