Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) search for experienced coaching support ahead of two tours of South Africa has hit a potential hurdle, with former national pace bowling coach Allan Donald appointed to the same role at Joburg Super Kings.

According to BCB sources, the board had been exploring options to bring Donald back into the national team setup as part of preparations for a demanding year against South African opposition. Bangladesh are scheduled to play a full series of Tests, ODIs and T20Is in South Africa from mid-November before returning for the 2027 ODI World Cup.

Donald is a familiar face in Bangladesh cricket, having served as the national team’s pace bowling coach for nearly two years. His experience of South African conditions and his previous work with Bangladesh made him a potential option as the board considers ways to prepare the players for the challenges ahead.

Donald, however, is set to take up his new assignment with Joburg Super Kings ahead of the fifth season of the SA20. He replaces Stephen Fleming, who stepped down after the 2026 season.

The next edition of the tournament is scheduled to run from January 17 to February 21, 2027. Donald will be tasked with helping the Super Kings pursue their first SA20 title.

The franchise strengthened its squad at the recent auction, signing Faf du Plessis, Wiaan Mulder, Jason Rowles, Dayyan Galiem, Kieron Pollard, Blessing Muzarabani and Andries Gous.
