The Bangladesh Jewellers’ Association (BAJUS) has further reduced the price of gold in domestic market, lowering the rate of 22-carat gold by Tk4,023 per bhori. Under the new pricing structure, a bhori (11.664 grams) of 22-carat gold is now priced at Tk231,880.
This decision was finalized during a meeting of BAJUS Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring on Wednesday. The new rates became effective across the country from 10am.
According to BAJUS, the price adjustment was made after considering the overall situation, following a decline in the price of pure gold (locally known as Tejabi gold) in the domestic market.
Under the updated tariff, 21-carat gold has been priced at Tk221,441 per bhori, 18-carat gold at Tk190,123 per bhori, and traditional-method gold at Tk 155,306 per bhori.
In its official press release, BAJUS clarified that VAT is already included within the designated selling prices, and jewellery shops are strictly prohibited from charging customers VAT separately.
However, making charges (wages) will be added based on the specific pattern and design of the jewellery.
For the exchange or resale of gold and silver jewellery, the association’s existing rules, excluding VAT, making charges, and the value of any stones, will remain in force. These newly set prices will remain effective across all jewellery establishments in the country until further notice.
BAJUS had previously adjusted gold prices on Monday. During that adjustment, the price of 22-carat gold was reduced by Tk4,723, setting it at Tk235,904 per bhori.
Other rates set on Monday included Tk225,640 for 21-carat gold, Tk193,739 for 18-carat gold, and Tk158,280 per bhori for traditional-method gold.
