IPU Secretary General Anda Filip leaves Dhaka after official visit

Secretary General of the Inter‑Parliamentary Union (IPU) Anda Filip left Dhaka on Wednesday, concluding her visit to Bangladesh.

Filip arrived on 30 August and during her stay held separate meetings with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Leader of the Opposition Shafiqur Rahman, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed, women MPs and parliamentarians facing political persecution.

In the discussions, she underscored the importance of democratic reconstruction in Bangladesh and stressed expanding cordial relations among parliamentarians.

As part of her visit, the IPU secretary general visited the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban and the July Mass Uprising Memorial Museum, according to a press release issued by the Parliament Secretariat.

Additional Secretary of the Secretariat, along with other officials, saw her off at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital.
