National Citizen Party (NCP) Joint Convener Sarwar Tushar has praised TIMES of Bangladesh for playing a positive role in objective news reporting and speaking truth to power.
He expressed this view during an event held at the Dhaka Club in the capital to celebrate the newspaper’s anniversary.
Tushar pointed out that professional and objective media organisations must step forward to establish a realistic foundation for independent media. He voiced his hope that the newspaper’s ongoing efforts to deliver analytical and fact-based reporting on behalf of the public would continue.
Recalling the past suppression and persecution of the media in Bangladesh, the NCP leader said, “The media fought against that; they fought a lot. We hope that they will not bow down to any pressure.”
He added, “They must always do what is related to the public interest – speaking truth to power against authority. What we have observed of their activities so far has inspired hope in us, and we wish to see this trend continue.”
Addressing modern news delivery, Tushar pointed out that visual presentation is now of paramount importance.
He observed that although public interest in reading traditional print media has somewhat waned, the “TIMES of Bangladesh” has successfully attracted readers through its innovative and contemporary approach to news presentation.
“Visuals are eye-catching,” Tushar said.
“We see many mechanisms in their news presentation designed to entice or allure the reader to read. There is an innovation and a contemporary touch in their style of presentation, which is less visible in traditional print media.”
He described this effort to engage the younger generation with the news as a highly positive initiative.
