Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested two people in connection with the incident in which a schoolteacher died after falling from a rickshaw when muggers snatched her bag in front of the South Plaza of the Jatiyo Sangsad Bhaban on Saturday.
The arrestees include prime suspect Md Poni alias Para Poni and his associate. The motorcycle used in the mugging was seized, and its owner is now in custody.
Members of RAB‑2 carried out the arrests during an operation on Sunday.
Ranjila Parveen, headteacher of Bagbari Government Primary School in Bogura, had travelled to Dhaka on Friday night for eye treatment.
Around 6am on Saturday, while heading to Islamia Eye Hospital in Farmgate by rickshaw, muggers on a motorcycle snatched her bag in front of the parliament building on Manik Mia Avenue. She sustained severe head injuries when she fell onto the road.
She was rescued and taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Following the incident, her husband filed a murder case with Sher‑e‑Bangla Nagar Police Station.
