US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Friday that a new oil agreement giving the United States a major stake in Venezuela’s petroleum reserves could bring nearly $100 billion in private investment to the Latin American country.
Rubio said the agreement would help secure stable oil reserves and reduce gas prices in the US, reports AFP.
Writing on X, Rubio said, “For the Venezuelan people, this deal will bring nearly $100 billion in private investment, support thousands of high-paying jobs, and drive the reconstruction of Venezuela’s economy.”
