The body of a worker was recovered from a canal in Morelganj upazila of Bagerhat on Wednesday, a day after he went missing while diving into the water to clean coal.
The deceased was identified as Md Aoyal Majhi, 55.
Fire Service personnel recovered his body from the canal near Kamar Patti area of Morelganj municipal town around 8:00am on Wednesday.
The body was being sent to Bagerhat 250-bed District Hospital for autopsy.
Earlier on Monday afternoon, Aoyal Majhi went missing after entering the canal near Kamar Patti to clean coal.
Aoyal, son of Md Abdul Kader of Tetulbaria village in Morelganj upazila, worked as an irregular labourer at a local blacksmith’s shop.
Morelganj Fire Service Station Leader Mohammad Jahangir Kabir said search operations began immediately after they were informed about the disappearance.
“The body was recovered around 8:00am and handed over to police,” he said.
Morelganj Police Station Sub-Inspector Krishna Pad Sarkar said an unnatural death case has been filed over the incident.
He added that preparations were underway to send the body to Bagerhat 250-bed District Hospital for autopsy.
