6 arrested over armed robbery in Tejgaon

Police have arrested six more suspects in connection with an armed robbery that took place in Dhaka’s Tejgaon area, recovering 130,500 Saudi Riyals in cash and three motorcycles allegedly used in the crime.

The arrestees have been identified as Md Abdullah Al Mamun (25), Md Arian (19), Md Sabbir Hossain (20), Md Zahidul Islam Sohag (25), Md Joy (23), and Md Bijoy (20).

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Talebur Rahman confirmed the information on Friday night.

The robbery occurred on July 1 in front of the northern gate of the Central Medical Store Depot in the Tejgaon Industrial Area, where a group of robbers used a roadblock and firearms to loot cash from representatives of M/s MM Ayat Tours & Travels.

The six individuals were arrested in separate drives conducted in the past 24 hours by a joint team from the Detective Branch (DB) and Tejgaon Industrial Police. The operations took place in Green Road, Char Fasson in Bhola, and Nikli in Kishoreganj.

This brings the total number of arrests in the case to 13. Earlier, seven other suspects were apprehended in connection with the robbery, from whom a large amount of the stolen cash had already been recovered.

To date, law enforcement has recovered a total of nearly SAR 400,000 (approximately Tk 1.2 crore) and three motorcycles believed to have been used in the robbery.
