National University (NU) is working to establish itself as a global hub for quality higher education by reforming curricula, strengthening academic autonomy and accelerating the infrastructural and digital transformation of its affiliated colleges, Vice-Chancellor Professor ASM Amanullah said.
Amanullah outlined the plans at an exchange meeting with the heads of National University-affiliated colleges and institutions in Thakurgaon district on Friday evening, 24 July. The programme was held at the auditorium of Eco College in Thakurgaon to discuss education quality and the development of regional colleges, the university said in a press release.
“We are working to establish the National University not only as the country’s largest university but also as a reliable global hub for quality higher education,” Amanullah said.
“It will be impossible to improve the overall education system unless colleges in remote and marginal areas receive equal importance.”
Amanullah called for a fundamental transformation of traditional teaching methods to help students acquire skills suited to the modern world.
He said the university was restructuring its curricula and placing greater emphasis on innovation and research-based education.
“In this era of globalisation, a fundamental transformation of the traditional education system is essential,” he said. “Our primary goal is to ensure that students acquire the skills required to compete in the modern world.”
The Vice-Chancellor reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to strengthening online learning platforms at colleges in northern districts such as Thakurgaon.
He also pledged to modernise libraries and laboratories and completely eliminate session backlogs at the earliest possible time.
Amanullah urged principals and teachers to conduct academic activities with honesty, dedication and innovative thinking.
The university is strengthening and empowering its regional centres under a new set of reform policies, Amanullah said.
The changes are intended to reduce the need for college principals to travel repeatedly to the National University campus in Gazipur for routine academic and administrative work.
“Regional centres are being further strengthened and empowered so that principals do not have to travel repeatedly to the Gazipur campus for routine academic and administrative matters,” he said.
Md Aminul Akter, Director of the National University’s Regional Centres Coordination Office, chaired the meeting.
Selina Akter, Principal of Thakurgaon Eco College; Professor Md Mokarram Hossain, Principal of Thakurgaon Government College; and Professor Md Julfikar Ali, Principal of Thakurgaon Government Women’s College attended the programme.
Principals and heads of other National University-affiliated colleges and institutions across the district were also present.
The meeting concluded with a cultural programme performed by local students and students from colleges in Thakurgaon. The performances included traditional folk songs, dances and theatrical pieces.
