The government has dissolved the existing ad-hoc committee of the Bangladesh Women’s Sports Association and formed a new 29-member ad-hoc committee.
Barrister Sarwat Siraj Shukla, a senior lawyer of the Bangladesh Supreme Court and sports organiser, has been made president of the new committee.
The committee was announced through a notification signed by Md Daulatuzzaman Khan, executive director of the National Sports Council (NSC) on Saturday.
The NSC chairman approved the committee under Sections 21 and 14(3) of the National Sports Council Act, 2018.
The ad hoc body has been asked to hold elections within three months of the notification and hand over responsibility to the elected committee.
The committee has named Professor Ismat Ara Haider, Ayesha Siddika Mani, Additional Deputy Inspector General Atiya Husna, Mirza Farzana Rahman Hosna and lawyer Runa Laila as vice-presidents.
National Sports Award-winning shooter Sharmin Akter Ratna has been appointed general secretary, while fellow award-winning shooter Sabrina Sultana and sports organiser Syeda Taslima Akter will serve as joint secretaries.
Sports organiser and former athlete Shakti Rani Mondol has been named treasurer.
Other members include National Sports Award-winning judoka Kamrun Nahar Hiru, athlete Farhad Jesmin Lity and former national gymnast Parveen Laila Lucy, alongside several athletes and sports organisers.
Welcoming her appointment, Sarwat Siraj Shukla thanked the government and pledged that the ad hoc committee would work to bring visible, lasting and positive changes to women’s sports across Bangladesh.
