A motorcyclist was killed and his friend injured after a truck hit their motorcycle on the Postogola Bridge in the capital early Friday.
The deceased was identified as Humayun Kabir, 23, while the injured person was his friend Sohel, 22.
The accident occurred around 4:30am. Humayun was taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead around 6am.
Humayun’s friend Ariful Islam Bappi, who was present at the hospital, said they lived in the Dhalibari area of Kalabagan. Humayun worked at a department store.
He said a group of 10 to 12 friends had gone to Mawa Ghat on motorcycles for a trip. While returning to Dhaka, a truck hit Humayun’s motorcycle on the Postogola Bridge, leaving Humayun and Sohel thrown onto the road and injured.
They were taken to DMCH, where doctors declared Humayun dead. Sohel is receiving treatment at the hospital.
Humayun was from Bhowal village in Faridganj upazila of Chandpur. His father’s name is Rahman.
Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH Police Camp, said the body had been kept at the hospital morgue for legal procedures. He added that Sohel was undergoing treatment at the emergency department.
