The Department of Environmental Science and Management (ESM) at North South University (NSU), in collaboration with the Earth Club, has inaugurated a new distinguished lecture series titled ‘Frontiers in Environmental Thought’.
The inaugural session of this academic initiative was held on Thursday, 9 July 2026, at AUDI 801 on the university campus, aiming to foster intellectual exchange and advance contemporary discourse on environmental science, sustainability, and education.
Professor Emeritus ATM Nurul Amin, one of the most respected environmental scholars in Bangladesh, delivered the keynote address entitled “Frontier of Environmental Education: Road Less Travelled”. Drawing on his extensive academic leadership, Professor Amin reflected on the evolution of environmental education and its critical role in addressing global environmental issues and fostering sustainable development.
The event was attended by Professor Nasar U Ahmed, Pro-Vice Chancellor of North South University, and Professor Dr. Dipak Kumar Mitra, Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHLS), representing the university’s support for collaborative scholarship and academic excellence.
Since its inception in 1994, the ESM department has remained dedicated to excellence in environmental research and teaching. Organisers noted that the launch of this series marks a significant milestone, providing a platform for thought leaders to share pioneering ideas and strengthen interdisciplinary dialogue on pressing environmental challenges.
The session, which brought together faculty, students, researchers, and alumni, concluded with a commitment to continue the series as a means of strengthening the culture of environmental scholarship at NSU.
