Actress Meher Afroz Shaon’s Facebook account has disappeared after her post on the July mass uprising triggered widespread debate and criticism on social media.
The missing account has prompted speculation online. However, writer Tamanna Setu, a close associate of Shaon, said Facebook suspended the account after it received a large number of reports.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, July 5, Tamanna Setu wrote, “My friend Meher Afroz Shaon’s Facebook account has been suspended by Facebook because of a large number of reports.” She also said Shaon did not delete the post that sparked the recent controversy. According to Setu, Shaon personally informed her about the suspension.
Earlier, the ‘Rashtra Sanglap Forum’ submitted a written complaint to Shahbagh Police Station against Shawon and five others.
The complaint accused them of making misleading and objectionable statements on social media and in different media outlets about the July mass uprising.
The forum alleged that those statements on the July mass uprising and related issues attempted to mislead the public and create confusion.
Shawon has yet to issue any official statement on the allegations. Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has also not made any official comment on the reported suspension of the account.
The exact reason behind the disappearance of Shaon’s Facebook account therefore remains unconfirmed.
At present, Tamanna Setu’s statement is the only public explanation for the account’s disappearance.
