Managing Director of Ishti Medical Bangladesh Mohammad Faisal has been sent to jail after surrendering in a case filed over the sexual assault of his 16-year-old niece, a court said on Tuesday.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Saifullah rejected Faisal’s bail petition and ordered him to be sent to jail following his surrender through lawyers.
A team of senior lawyers, including Dhaka Bar Association President Advocate Anwar Zahid Bhuiyan, argued for the defence, claiming the allegations were false and filed a month after the incident due to a family property dispute.
The prosecution, led by former Dhaka Bar Association President Advocate Khorshed Mia Alam and others, opposed the bail.
According to the case filed at Gulshan Police Station on 23 April, the accused is the brother-in-law of the victim’s father. Between 21 and 24 June 2025, he lured the victim on various pretexts, including outings and smoking, which she refused.
On 24 June, he called her to his office at Concord Sylvi Heights in Gulshan for lunch and later took her to the balcony, again attempting to get her to smoke.
That night, while driving her home, he stopped at American Club Road, offered to teach her driving, and asked her to sit on his lap. When she refused, he made her sit between the front seats and assaulted her.
The victim became mentally traumatised but remained silent to avoid family discord. The incident came to light on 17 April when the accused visited the house on the day of the victim’s elder sister’s wedding.
Upon seeing him, the victim screamed and used abusive language, prompting family members to learn the truth.
