India’s Ministry of External Affairs has clarified that Bangladesh Prime Minister’s Adviser Zahed Ur Rahman was granted entry into India after being questioned at Delhi airport but chose to return to Dhaka on his own accord.
The clarification came during the ministry’s weekly briefing in Delhi on Tuesday, where a journalist sought details about the incident.
Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that on 14 June, the adviser arrived in India with a personal passport containing a SAARC visa. Zahed had travelled with that passport and visa to attend the 28th meeting of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA).
“Immigration officials at Delhi airport questioned him. After confirming the purpose of his visit, the immigration authorities granted him permission to enter India. However, the adviser returned to Dhaka of his own accord,” Jaiswal said.
