Two teenagers were killed and another injured in a collision between a bus and a motorcycle on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway in Patiya Upazila.
The accident occurred on Saturday at around 12:45pm near the Ansar Camp.
The deceased have been identified as Mohammad Shahadat Hossain (15), son of Akhtar Hossain from Sheikh Mohammad Para, Kachua Union, and Mohammad Tasnim (15), son of Zahedul Islam from the same area.
Shahadat was a ninth-grade student at Chakrashala Agricultural High School, while Tasnim studied in class nine at Abdus Sobahan Rahat Ali High School.
The injured, Tanvir Hossain (18), son of Mohammad Abdul, also from the area, was taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
Locals and eyewitnesses said Shahadat was riding the motorcycle with Tasnim and Tanvir as they went to a local Eid-ul-Adha cattle market. The collision occurred when the motorcycle, driven by Shahadat, met a bus coming from the opposite direction near Ansar Camp, causing all three to be thrown from the vehicle.
Shahadat died at the scene, while Tasnim succumbed to his injuries at Potia Upazila Health Complex. Tanvir received first aid at the same facility before being referred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
Witnesses reported that the bus driver attempted to flee, but locals chased and stopped the vehicle, subsequently informing the police.
Dr Suchita Deb, on duty at Patiya Health Complex, said all three sustained severe head injuries.
Patiya Highway Police Sub-Inspector Mostafizur Rahman confirmed that the bodies of the two deceased have been kept at the Upazila Health Complex and stated that appropriate legal action will be taken.
