Sonali Bank PLC signed an agreement with the Department of Prisons on Tuesday to collect prisoners’ daily expenses and various fees through the Sonali Payment Gateway, marking a move towards digital transactions in correctional facilities.
The agreement was signed at the Department of Prisons conference room, where Sonali Bank Deputy Managing Director Md Rafiqul Islam and Department of Prisons Additional Inspector General Colonel Mohammad Mustafa Kamal signed and exchanged documents on behalf of their respective organisations, the bank said in a press release.
The arrangement will enable authorities to process payments digitally, replacing manual collection systems and improving efficiency in handling inmate-related financial transactions.
Among those present were Sonali Bank General Manager Aklima Islam and Deputy General Manager Mohammad Aslam Hossain.
Department of Prisons DIG Prison Health Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed Akhter Hasib Dewan and Additional Inspector General Md Jahangir Kabir also attended the ceremony along with other officials.
