BNP candidate for the Sherpur-3 (Sreebardi–Jhenaigati) constituency, Masudur Rahman, has announced boycott of the ongoing general election, citing allegations of widespread irregularities and vote rigging.
Masudur formally announced his withdrawal at a press conference held at approximately 3pm on Thursday at the Sreebardi upazila Jamaat-e-Islami office.
The election for this seat was originally scheduled for 12 February but was postponed following the death of the previous Jamaat candidate.
During the press conference, Masudur alleged that since the morning, activists from the BNP had been intimidating Jamaat polling agents and forcibly removing them from various centres.
He further claimed that numerous centres were plagued by irregularities, including ballot stuffing and the casting of fake votes. He stated that a free and fair election was impossible under such circumstances, prompting his decision to boycott the polls.
