Geopolitical unrest in the Middle East is beginning to ripple into India, raising concerns over the Indian Premier League (IPL), scheduled to begin on 28 March 2026. The ongoing conflict involving the U.S., Israel and Iran has disrupted LPG gas supplies in India, prompting fears that the multi-crore tournament could face operational challenges.

Questions have emerged over the potential impact of the gas shortage. Stadium floodlights rely on fuel, while hotels hosting thousands of guests require gas for cooking. Any disruption could affect matches and hospitality services. Travel for foreign players is also at risk, as airspace restrictions over West Asia complicate flights. World Cup squads from West Indies, South Africa and England have already experienced difficulties returning to India. Rising fuel prices may also increase team travel costs between venues.

A senior BCCI official confirmed that discussions are ongoing with hotel management, stating that, for now, the situation remains under control. IPL chairman Arun Dhumal said: “We are closely monitoring developments. It is too early to make definitive statements as conditions are changing rapidly, but we will take necessary action if required.”
