Bangladeshi leg-spinner Rishad Hossain went unsold in the inaugural auction of England’s T20 competition, The Hundred. Despite being listed in the spinners’ category, no franchise expressed interest in signing him, leaving Hossain without a team for the tournament.
Rishad entered the auction with a base price of £75,000, approximately 1.125 crore Bangladeshi taka. The spinners’ category also featured Zafer Chauhan, Usman Tariq, and Aqeel Hossain, but only Usman Tariq attracted bids. Tariq, another leg-spinner from Pakistan, was sold to Birmingham Phoenix for £140,000, surpassing his base price of £100,000.
Other Pakistani players such as Haris Rauf and Shadab Khan drew no interest from franchises, while Shaheen Shah Afridi withdrew his name from the auction before proceedings began. For Bangladeshi cricket fans, Rishad’s unsold status was a disappointment, particularly after his strong performances in domestic leagues.
The highest bid in the auction went to England’s Jordan Cox, who was acquired by Wales Fire for £300,000. His sale highlights the competitive nature of The Hundred auction and the demand for top English talent.
Though Rishad Hossain remains without a team this season, his domestic performances continue to make him a key prospect for future tournaments, and cricket analysts expect him to feature in upcoming franchise events.
