The National Citizen Party’s disciplinary committee has issued a show-cause notice against Zobairul Alam Manik, a central member of the NCP, following a controversial speech he delivered during an event in Chattogram on June 9.
The notice was triggered by remarks that the party’s Central Disciplinary Committee deemed as “unorganisational” and damaging to the NCP’s public image and internal discipline.
In his address, Manik referred to the July uprising, claiming the movement’s success as the party’s achievement.
“We led the July uprising to success,” he said.
“No one managed to take leadership in the past 16–17 years. That was a political revolution. If someone tries to hijack our strategy to act like mafias, we will remind them — we are the biggest mafias now,” Manik added in his speech.
Referring to former AL government minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury, he said, “If anyone attempts to be another Zabed, trying to manipulate and steal votes from us, we will resist — like Abu Sayeed, Mugdho, and Wasim Akram did — even if it costs our lives.”
“We held the Shah Amanat Bridge with just 20–25 people on July 18. If we could lead then, we surely can do it again,” Manik further said.
The party has directed Manik to provide a written explanation within three days to Abdullah Al-Amin, head of the central disciplinary committee, outlining why disciplinary action should not be taken against him.
The show-cause notice was signed by Saleh Uddin Sifat, joint member secretary (Office) of the NCP. Copies of the notice were also forwarded to the Party Convenor, the member secretary, and the head of the Disciplinary Committee for record and further consideration.
