Captain Nigar Sultana Joty put team spirit above everything else as Bangladesh moved closer to another major milestone. She made it clear that unity and execution have driven the team’s strong run in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier.
After Bangladesh’s Super Six win in Kirtipur, Nepal, Joty summed up the approach in simple terms. “The whole thing is about team spirit. We always stay together and think the same way. Our main goal is to execute the plans we make as a team once we go onto the field.”
That mindset has carried Bangladesh into the main round of the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup. The journey was not smooth in every way. Joty herself struggled for rhythm with the bat early in the tournament. Before Friday’s match against Scotland, her highest score was 21.
She responded when it mattered most. Joty scored an unbeaten 56 against Scotland as Bangladesh won by 91 runs. Across six innings, she finished the qualifier with 104 runs.
The captain said the achievement goes far beyond numbers. “Playing a World Cup for the country is a huge matter. When people see us playing in the World Cup, they surely feel inspired. There are more women cricketers in Bangladesh who want us to do well here. Playing in the World Cup main round will also bring a positive change to cricket in the country.”
Bangladesh’s success has been built on strong batting at the top. Sobhana Mostary scored 229 runs to finish as the second-highest run-getter in the qualifiers. Sharmin Akter Supta followed with 182 runs to place fourth. Opener Dilara Akter added 151 runs and provided steady starts.
Joty highlighted the shared effort behind the results. “Many people are behind this success. Our opener Dilara has scored runs in every match. Sobhana Mostary and Sharmin Supta deserve special mention as well. And if we talk about bowling, everyone has done well.”
Bangladesh remain unbeaten across the group stage and Super Six. Their final Super Six match is on February 1 against the Netherlands. A win will confirm the qualifier title.
Vice-captain Nahida Akter remains confident heading into the last game. “Alhamdulillah, we have won six matches in a row. We have one more match left, InshaAllah we will try to maintain the winning run and become champions.”
