Bangladesh will not accept any unreasonable conditions from the International Cricket Council regarding its participation in the upcoming T20 World Cup, the country’s Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Nazrul said on Tuesday, amid ongoing uncertainty over the tournament.
Speaking to journalists at the Secretariat, Asif said Bangladesh would stand firm if the ICC sought to impose terms under pressure from the Indian cricket authorities.
“If the ICC bows to pressure from the Indian Cricket Board and tries to impose pressure on us by setting unreasonable conditions, we will not accept those conditions,” he said.
The comments come as speculation continues over whether Bangladesh will travel to India to take part in the T20 World Cup. Bangladesh has maintained its opposition to playing the tournament in India, a stance that has fuelled debate over its eventual involvement.
A final decision is expected on Wednesday, 21 January. Officials from the ICC informed the Bangladesh Cricket Board of the timeline during a meeting held last Saturday.
Asif also sought to address reports about a possible replacement should Bangladesh withdraw, saying he was not aware of any plans for Scotland to take Bangladesh’s place in the tournament.
The situation remains unresolved as the ICC awaits Bangladesh’s decision, with the outcome likely to have significant implications for the composition of the T20 World Cup.
