Bangladesh captain Litton Das remains confident in his team’s ability to bounce back, even after suffering four consecutive defeats. He believes that if the side plays to its full potential, they can turn the tide against Ireland in the ongoing T20I series.
The hosts began their campaign in Chattogram on Thursday with a disappointing 39-run loss in the first T20I. Ireland, batting first, posted a competitive 181 for 4 in their 20 overs. Chasing the target, Bangladesh struggled from the outset, losing four wickets in the powerplay and appearing on the brink of collapse, at one point struggling to reach 80. Towhid Hridoy, however, produced a brilliant unbeaten 83 to guide the team to a more respectable 142.
While praising the bowlers for their efforts, Litton admitted that the top-order failures and runs conceded early in the innings proved costly. He highlighted the performance of Mustafizur Rahman and noted that, with slightly better execution, the side could have restricted Ireland by another 20–25 runs.
The Chattogram wicket, he explained, can be batting-friendly, particularly under dew, but the early loss of wickets made it difficult for the middle and lower order to stabilise the innings. Hridoy’s innings, he said, was vital, with Jaker Ali offering some support alongside him.
Looking ahead, Litton hopes Hridoy can maintain his form throughout the series, boosting the team’s morale. He emphasised that if Bangladesh plays its natural game and performs on the day, victory is within reach.
The second T20I between Bangladesh and Ireland is scheduled to be played in Chattogram on Saturday.
