The technical inspection, assessment and monitoring of various residential halls and buildings of Dhaka University (DU) are continuing following the recent earthquake, according to a statement issued by the university.
The Technical Sub-Committee, formed with expert members from BUET for the technical audit, assessment, and monitoring of various residential halls and buildings following the earthquake, inspected five more halls and hostels of Dhaka University on Thursday.
The halls inspected were Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall, Shamsun Nahar Hall, Dr Qudrat-e-Khuda Hostel, Shahid Athlete Sultana Kamal Hostel, and Poet Sufia Kamal Hall.
During the inspection, BUET Department of Civil Engineering Professor Ishtiaq Ahmed and Professor Nazrul Islam, along with respective hall provosts, wardens, residential teachers, university engineers, and representatives from DUCSU and the hall unions, were present.
Earlier, the Central Coordination Committee was formed with Dhaka University Treasurer M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury as the chairman, for the technical audit, assessment, and monitoring of various residential halls and buildings after the earthquake.
Four sub-committees have also been formed under the Central Coordination Committee. These sub-committees, formed with experts from BUET, will complete the inspection, technical audit, and assessment activities of the residential halls and buildings in the shortest possible time.
After the inspection, the technical assessment report will be made public. Detailed reports on the matter will be kept at the Engineering Department and the respective halls.
If the technical assessment identifies any risky aspects of the buildings, arrangements will be made to relocate the students elsewhere.
