Police arrested four men after images of US President Donald Trump and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein were projected onto Windsor Castle on Tuesday, coinciding with the Trump’s arrival in the UK for a state visit.
Thames Valley Police confirmed the arrests, stating the men were held on suspicion of “malicious communications following a public stunt in Windsor.”
Those detained include a 36-year-old and a 50-year-old from London, a 60-year-old from East Sussex, and a 37-year-old from Kent. Officers said they acted “swiftly” to halt the projection and have launched an investigation.
Trump is scheduled to meet King Charles III at Windsor Castle on Wednesday, the first full day of his state visit. He and US First Lady Melania Trump flew into London late Tuesday and spent the night at the US ambassador’s residence.
Ahead of his arrival, some protestors gathered in Windsor, where a substantial security presence has been put in place.
Trump was friends with Epstein during the 1990s and early 2000s, although he has never faced allegations of wrongdoing in connection with the deceased paedophile financier, reports the BBC.
The president’s trip comes shortly after UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer dismissed Britain’s ambassador to Washington, Peter Mandelson, over his association with Epstein.
