Police arrested 32 people, including suspected drug dealers, thieves and alleged members of a medical syndicate, during a special anti-crime drive across Rangpur Metropolitan on Wednesday.
The operation, aimed at curbing drug trafficking, theft and other crimes, began at 10am and is continuing across the city’s six police stations.
Mahfuzur Rahman, deputy commissioner (Crime) of Rangpur Metropolitan Police, said separate teams from Kotwali and Tajhat police stations took part in the initial phase of the operation.
Kotwali Police Station arrested 11 suspected drug dealers and thieves and seized six grammes of heroin during the drive.
Meanwhile, Tajhat Police Station arrested seven people, including alleged brokers linked to a medical syndicate and suspected drug dealers, during an operation in the hospital area.
The remaining 14 suspects were arrested from areas under the jurisdiction of the city’s other police stations.
Police said the special operation would continue across all six police stations in the metropolitan area.
