Three people were killed early Wednesday when a timber‑laden mini truck collapsed on them while they were repairing a damaged tyre on the Dhaka–Bogura highway in Sherpur upazila of the district.
The accident occurred around 1am near the Mahipur Fire Service station. The victims were identified as the truck’s driver, helper and mechanic.
Locals said the rear tyre broke down, forcing the trio to carry out repairs on the highway. They raised the vehicle with a wooden jack and began working underneath it. The jack slipped, causing the truck to fall and crush them. All three died on the spot.
Sherpur Fire Service personnel rushed to the scene, recovered the bodies and handed them over to Sherpur Highway Police Camp.
Ayub Ali, in‑charge of the camp, confirmed the recovery and said the bodies would be released to relatives after completion of formalities.
