In a major reshuffle, the government has transferred and posted 19 senior officials of Bangladesh Police, including new superintendents of police (SP) for three districts, new deputy inspectors general (DIG) for the Rangpur and Barishal ranges, and four deputy commissioners (DC) for Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
Ministry of Home Affairs’ Police-1 branch issued separate notifications regarding these orders on Wednesday. According to these notifications, signed by Deputy Secretary Tousif Ahmed by order of the president, these changes were made in the public interest and are to be effective immediately.
Top-level reorganisation
As part of the restructuring, Mohammad Abdul Mabud, the Commissioner (DIG) of Rangpur Metropolitan Police, has been appointed as the DIG of Rangpur Range.
Md Zulfiqar Ali Haider, currently serving as DIG of Industrial Police, has been moved to the Barishal Range as DIG. Additionally, Farida Yasmin, an Additional DIG of the Highway Police, has been attached to the Barishal Range DIG office.
In other senior movements, Md Saleh Uddin, an Additional DIG at RAB, has been transferred to the Highway Police as additional DIG. Mir Moddaher Hossain, an additional DIG of the Highway Police, has been posted as additional DIG at the Bangladesh Police Academy (BPA) in Sardah, Rajshahi.
District-level changes
Significant changes were also implemented at the district level. Mohammad Jasim Uddin, the SP of Kushtia, has been transferred to Gazipur as SP. Md Aminul Islam, an SP at the Sylhet Range DIG office, will now serve as the SP of Kushtia, while Sarkar Omar Farooq from the Police Staff College has been appointed as the SP of Khulna.
The outgoing SP of Khulna, Mohammad Tajul Islam, has been transferred to the Armed Police Battalion (APBn).
Moreover, four other SPs – Md Sharif Uddin (Gazipur), Mohammad Mizanur Rahman Munshi (Narayanganj), Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman (PBI), and Deepak Jyoti Khisa (APBn)—have all been posted as SPs in the Highway Police.
DMP and other postings
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) will receive four new Deputy Commissioners: Md Sharfuddin (formerly of Barishal Metropolitan Police), Muhammad Abdul Wahab (APBn), Md Akter Hossain (Sylhet Metropolitan Police), and Md Towhidul Arif (Special SP of CID).
Additionally, Mohammad Shahinur Alam Khan, a Supernumerary Additional DIG of the Special Branch (SB), has been posted as SP of the SB. Additional SP Md Jahangir Alam has been transferred to the Noakhali Police Training Centre (PTC).
Dr Kaniz Hossain Jahan, the SP of Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) police, and Md Rezaul Karim, an SP of the Highway Police, have both been moved to the APBn as SPs.
Finally, Zerin Akhter, a special SP of the SB, has been transferred to Tangail PTC, and Mohammad Ehsan Sattar has been appointed as Supernumerary Additional DIG of the Khulna PTC.
