The government has long-term plans for the treatment, rehabilitation, employment, and monthly honorarium of those injured in the July popular uprising, Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan told parliament on Thursday.

Responding to a written question from opposition MP Rokeya Begum, the minister outlined the government’s initiatives for July fighters.

For those severely injured, necessary arrangements are being made to send them abroad for advanced treatment based on medical board recommendations and proposals from the Health Services Division, the minister said.

A total of 152 severely injured July fighters have been sent abroad for advanced treatment to Thailand, Singapore, Turkey, and Russia. Of these, 102 have returned to Bangladesh after completing treatment. Currently, 50 July fighters are undergoing treatment abroad.

A database of 3,241 interested individuals has been created for the welfare and rehabilitation of July martyrs’ families and fighters. A list of 1,937 individuals has been sent to the Ministry of Youth and Sports for training and rehabilitation.

The minister said monthly honorariums are being paid to 13,344 out of a total of 14,369 gazetted July fighters through their own bank accounts by category: Category A receives Tk 20,000 each, Category B receives Tk 15,000 each, and Category C receives Tk 10,000 each. The process of providing allowances to the remaining July fighters is ongoing.
