Police, Rab and Army raided Geneva camp at around 8pm in Mohammadpur on Monday, arresting 14 people.
During the raid, locally made weapons, helmets, and drugs were seized from them.
The raid followed a violent clash between the ‘Buniya Sohel’ and ‘Chua Selim’ groups in the camp in the afternoon over drug trade and establishing dominance.
During the clash, a man named Shah Alam, 22, was hacked to death.
A security official told the media that initial questioning revealed four of the detainees were directly involved in the murder.
However, further investigation will identify others in connection with the murder.
Authorities are monitoring incidents in the camp closely. CCTV footage from the past two days’ clashes has been reviewed, and suspects were arrested based on the footage.
The official also said that, in previous raids, criminals had been arrested but were later released on bail, after which they resumed drug dealing in the area – a cycle that has contributed to such recurring incidents.
It has been reported that joint operations will continue to control crime and clashes.
According to locals, miscreants detonated three crude bombs in Geneva Camp, injuring a woman in the afternoon on Sunday.
Later, police carried out an operation in the area.
The following day, disputes over dominance led to continued clashes between the two groups from morning until noon in Lane No 7 of the camp.
During that time, there were repeated chases and counter-chases, as well as brick-throwing between the two sides.
Police arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control.
