Amid political tensions, Planning Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud stated after a closed-door meeting of the interim government’s advisory council that Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus will not be resigning.
“The chief adviser remains with us,” he said. “He has never talked about resigning. We are all here to fulfill the duties which were handed to us.”
The chief adviser met with his advisers for about two hours on Saturday afternoon at the NEC conference room in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, from 12:20pm to 2:00pm, following an Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) session.
19 advisory council members participated in the meeting chaired by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus.
During the session, Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan briefly stepped out and informed reporters: “Discussions are ongoing regarding elections, reforms, and potential announcements in July.”
However, she declined to comment on the chief adviser’s resignation rumors.
Later, Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain and Local Government Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan were also seen leaving the meeting.
Sources confirmed that only advisers attended the meeting, with other officials being asked to leave after the ECNEC session had concluded.
Reports indicate that, during Thursday’s meeting, Chief Adviser Yunus had “hinted at his intention to resign,” expressing frustration over political disagreements, confusion regarding reforms, and various obstacles hindering government work.
Yunus is scheduled to meet with BNP, Jamaat, and several other political parties on Saturday evening. Political analysts consider both this meeting and Yunus’s current stance critically important given the current political climate.
