Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser to Bangladesh’s interim government, has been named one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of 2025.

The recognition follows his pivotal role in steering the country toward democratic transition after last year’s mass student uprising ousted the former authoritarian leadership.

In a tribute, former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton hailed Yunus as a beacon of hope.

“A known leader stepped up to guide the nation: Nobel Peace Prize laureate Muhammad Yunus,” she wrote, praising his efforts to restore democratic values and civil liberties.

Clinton also reflected on Yunus’s earlier work with Grameen Bank, which revolutionised microfinance and empowered millions of impoverished women.

“Wherever I’ve travelled, I have witnessed the extraordinary impact of his work—lives transformed, communities lifted, and hope reborn,” she said.

Yunus is now credited with helping to rebuild Bangladesh’s democratic institutions and promote accountability in the post-crisis era.

The Time 100 list celebrates global figures shaping the world through vision and leadership.
