Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus will depart for New York tonight to attend the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
He is scheduled to arrive in New York on September 22 and will address the UN General Assembly on September 26, as confirmed by senior assistant press secretary to the Chief Adviser, Foyez Ahmad. Yunus is expected to return to Bangladesh on October 2, reports BSS.
This year, four political leaders will accompany the Bangladesh delegation. The delegation includes BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP leader Humayun Kabir, Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer Syeed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, and National Citizen Party (NCP) leader Akhter Hossen.
In his speech, the Chief Adviser is expected to highlight the interim administration’s achievements over the past year and reiterate the government’s commitment to restoring democracy through reforms, leading to free and fair elections set for February 2026.
Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain said this year’s UNGA holds special significance for Bangladesh. On September 30, the UN will hold its first-ever High-Level Conference on the situation of Rohingya Muslims and other minorities in Myanmar.
